I've posted this DIY a number of times, it's one of my favourite Easter crafts to do. I was geared up to take some fresh photos but I couldn't find any scrap silk, so I decided instead of ruining a perfectly good shirt, I'd bow out and borrow some off pinterest.

When I first did this project I worked for a British Heritage designer, Edina Ronay, who let me use her deadstock fabric for my crafty crafts. If you've got scrap silk or can find some in your local charity shop or fabric shop this is a great DIY, if not, try naturally dying your easter eggs instead! Try not to waste the egg as well, poke a hole in the bottom to drain out the yoke and whisk it up for breakfast or use it as a beauty mask.

Silk Dyed Easter Eggs

[What You Will Need]
Eggs
Glass or enamel pot 
Silk scraps (or old ties, blouses, or boxers, cut into pieces large enough to cover an egg)
White scrap cotton fabric
Twist ties (I used florists’ wire)
3 tablespoons of white vinegar
Warm water
Vegetable oil
Paper towels
Tongs or spoon

[How To]
1. Cut silk into a square (or a piece) large enough to wrap around a raw egg.
2. Wrap a raw egg with a piece of silk, making sure the printed side of the material is facing the egg.
3. Place the silk-wrapped egg in the piece of scrap white fabric and secure tightly with a twist-tie.
4. Place the egg(s) in an enamel or glass pot. Fill pot with water to cover eggs completely.
5. Add three tablespoons of white vinegar.
6. Bring water to a boil, turn heat down, and simmer for 20 minutes (longer if you plan on eating the eggs).
7. Remove eggs from water with tongs or spoon and let cool.
8. Remove silk from cooled egg.
9. For shiny eggs, wipe with vegetable oil after completing step 8.
